Walk of the Month: Stainforth and Catrigg Force

We like to help you explore the area whilst you’re staying with us. For those of you that can get out on foot, we hope our monthly walks help give you a little inspiration whether you visit us weekly, monthly or just once a year.

This February, we’d like to recommend a delightful circular walk that is a short drive away but takes you to one of the Yorkshire Dales lesser known waterfalls.

Where to wander this month: Stainforth and Catrigg Force

This moderate circular walk offers some stunning valley views and a visit to the secluded gem, Catrigg Force.

The details:

Distance:  2 miles

Approx. Time: 1 – 1.5 hours

Terrain: Lanes and fields, a number of stiles, a section of woodland footpath that can be slippy and has a steep climb.

Important info:

The first section of the route goes through farmland where, depending on the time of year, there may be cattle or livestock. Please make sure to follow the countryside code.

The woodland section can be slippery under foot and includes a steep climb.

The route:

Starting in Stainforth car park (BD24 9PF), it will take you around 25 minutes to drive to the start but the drive alone will take you through some lovely local scenery. Grab your walking boots and view the route here.

Walk maps for this walk and many others can be found in our park reception and you can view all of our other walk recommendations here.

Let us know if you’ve enjoyed the route and share your snaps on our social media pages so others can be inspired.
