Local Events

What better way to enjoy a short break than to immerse yourself in local life. To help you do that, here are some dates for your diary showcasing the fantastic array of fairs, shows and festivals we have within an hour’s drive from the park.

Many of these events are a huge contributor to the local economies and a massive part of local life. We hope you enjoy any you attend and please let us know which events have been your favourite.

 

NOVEMBER

Clitheroe Castle Bonfire & Fireworks – Saturday 1st – Bonfire & fireworks, food & drink and entertainment, all with the backdrop of Clitheroe Castle. Find out more here. 

Skipton Artisan market – Sunday 2nd (Every first Sunday of the month) – Up to 27 stalls featuring food, gifts and household items, mainly homemade, in the Canal Basin. Find out more here. 

Kirkby Lonsdale Bonfire – Wednesday 5th –  Annual bonfire at Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club. Bonfire will be lit at 6:15pm with fireworks at 6:45pm prompt. Food available, bar open, sideshows and funfair for children. Find out more here. 

Light up Lancaster – Thursday 6th – Saturday 8th – The magical light-art trail throughout the city returns! This year the artworks and installations will be open from 5 – 10pm, giving you longer to explore and experience the festival. Find out more here. 

Bonfire weekend at Thornton Hall Country Park – Friday 7th & Saturday 8th – A Bonfire fire weekend spectacle with fireworks, bonfire, fire breathers, live music, food & drinks and much more. Find out more here. 

Christmas extravaganza at the Black Bull – Friday 7th –  From 6pm the upstairs function room in the Black Bull will be hosting stalls from local buisnesses, perfect for Christmas presents or a treat for yourself! Find out more here. 

Polar Express – Friday 14th – 24th December – Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway – Enjoy all of the wonder and magic of this beloved Christmas film whilst travelling through the Yorkshire countryside on a steam train. Xmas pyjamas optional! Find out more here.

Santa’s Grotto at Greenlands – Saturday 15th November –  23rd December (Selected dates) – Santa, his team of jolly elves and his Reindeer recruits create a magical festive experience. Find out more here. 

Christmas in Ingleton – Saturday 15th November – The village square will be a Christmas spectacle from 1 – 5pm with live music, alpacas, local dance group, stalls, Santa parade and the Elf run. Find out more here. 

Crafts in the Pen – Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th November – Over 230 stalls of arts and craft pop up in Skipton Auction mart for a fabulous festive weekend,  along with a Santa’s grotto. Find out more here. 

Snow White, The Fairest panto in all the land! – Friday 28th November – Sunday 28th December (selected dates) – Lancaster Grand Theatres annual family panto. Find out more here. 

Christmas Event at Country Harvest – Friday 28th November – Festive fun for all the family, including festive stalls, Santa’s reindeer & sleigh, food & drink, Helter Skelter and inflatable snow globe. Find out more here.

12 days of Christmas trail at Bolton Abbey – Saturday 29th – Sunday 4th January – Enjoy a walk through Strid Wood finding the festive clues to solve the Christmas mystery. Find out more here. 

Settle Christmas lights switch on – Saturday 29th November – Annual Christmas lights switch on with Christmas market & entertainment from 12pm, with the light switch on & fireworks at 5pm. Find out more here. 

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run – Sunday 30th – At 11am Skipton High Street will be full of Santa’s on a fun run! Find out more here. 

Skipton Christmas lights switch on – Sunday 30th – Skipton high street with entertainment from 10am onwards, culminating in the big switch on. Find out more here. 

DECEMBER

12 days of Christmas trail at Bolton Abbey –  running until Sunday 4th January – Enjoy a walk through Strid Wood finding the festive clues to solve the Christmas mystery. Find out more here. 

Christmas Market at Beetham Nurseries – Thursday 4th – Sunday 7th – Festive chalets featuring local businesses, food & drink and plenty of Christmas family fun, along with live music. Find out more here. 

Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas Fair – Friday 5th – Sunday 7th – Parade, markets, light switch on and more. More details to be announced here.

Robin Hood: Adult Panto – Saturday 6th – Sunday 21st – An adults only panto suitable for 18+ at Lancaster Grand Theatre. Find out more here. 

Visit Santa at White Scar Cave – Selected dates from Saturday 6th – Tuesday 23rd – Visit Father Christmas in his grotto at the cave entrance, and the cave will have special illuminations and festive effects. Find out more here. 

Santa’s Grotto at Ingleborough Cave – Selected dates from Saturday 6th – Tuesday 23rd – Explore magical underground passages with Santa’s Elves, leading to a festive meeting with Santa. Find out more here.

Skipton Christmas market – Sunday 7th & Sunday 14th  –  Festive stalls featuring food, gifts and household items, mainly homemade, on the High Street. Find out more here. 

Wreath making at Country Harvest – Wednesday 10th – Wreath making workshop with festive refreshments. Must be booked in advance. Find out more here. 

Christmas in the mart at Bentham Auction Mart – Friday 12th & Saturday 13th – Christmas market, charity Christmas lights tractor run, farmers Christmas carol concert, children’s activities, live music, food & drink. The full schedule of each day will be released soon. Find out more here.
